Twitter Personalities

The people I chose to follow on twitter are all very diverse, but despite the diversity they all have one thing in common. They are harnessing Twitter as a way to promote who they are and what they stand for to their audience. Each person has a theme to their Twitter page and these particular people happen to be famous at least in some sense therefore, they have an image to withhold. The mixing pot of personalities I choose to follow includes people with political backgrounds, entertainment backgrounds both of which are clearly represented by their pages. I will use Ellen as an example here. She is a well known talk show host therefore her Twitter page is practically a string of advertisements for her show. It has clips and sneak peaks all things that attract her audience and represent the person they see on T.V. Although Ellen's Twitter feed is very different from Kylie Jenner's who has a feed consisting mostly of advertisements for her lip kit they are alike in the sense that they are promoting their famous personas. I would say that most celebrity accounts are fake in a way because there isnt as much variability in the content. This has to do with the ethos that the celebrities need in order to maintain their names. Referring back to Ellen, when you look at her page you see happy, feel good tweets. It makes it seem as though she never has a bad day. This is where I would say the page lacks true authenticity. This is not a bad thing but Ellen is a human being and humans have more than one emotion so clearly her page is not a direct representation of her as an everyday person, but instead as who she is on television. The emotions that each of the personalities present are carefully selected to match what they stand for. For example, Obama is not going to post cute animal gifs but will post more serious articles or tweets due to his position in the country. Overall each person designs their page to uphold an image and to give the audience what they want with an overall idea of what to expect based on what they show to the public.
